Starting a business for the first time is hard; there are so many obstacles to overcome, some of them you can predict, but most that you don’t see coming until they’re right in front of you. And it’s easy to look at others who have started and succeeded quickly, which can leave one with feelings unworthiness and defeat. Sometimes we struggle to make even a little bit of progress, only to see others run out of the gate and show darn near immediate results. Frustrating. But the experience that fed the quick success of others? It didn’t come overnight, it came through a lot of trial and error, a lot of persistence and a bit of luck. I’m reminded of the fable of the Tortoise and the Hare, and how slow and steady wins the race more often then not, the key word in that phrase being steady. Keeping eyes on the goal, continued learning and steady progress and momentum can be key. Tortoises can be seen as big, slow and lumbering. Stay out of their way though, their bite can damage with incredible effectiveness.
